NEW YORK, July 30, 2025 (WAFA) – The representative of Belize affirmed that while recognizing the State of Palestine is a crucial and necessary step forward, it is only the beginning.
In a speech delivered before the United Nations, he emphasized that the international community must provide all possible support to establish and strengthen Palestinian institutions capable of governing a modern, democratic state living side by side with Israel within secure and recognized borders.
He called on the international community to address and shed light on the worsening humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza "directly."
He also urged the global community to ensure the unhindered flow of humanitarian aid, and to provide financial, material, and technical assistance to aid in the reconstruction efforts.
However, he noted that achieving all of this requires a genuine political process.
"Israel must come to the negotiating table," he said, adding, "Confidence must be restored in the region, but first, the violence must stop."
