Egypt welcomes UK’s intention to recognize Palestinian state, describes it historic step

CAIRO, July 30, 2025 (WAFA) – Egypt welcomed the recent announcement by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressing his government's intention to recognize the State of Palestine.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry described the move as a historic step, which complements international efforts to establish an independent, contiguous Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967, lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Egypt affirmed its full support for the expansion of international recognition of Palestinian statehood on the basis of the two-state solution.

It also emphasized that the two-state solution represents a pivotal step toward establishing a lasting, just, and comprehensive peace in the Middle East and fulfills the aspirations and legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state in accordance with international law and relevant Security Council resolutions.

The statement concluded by urging all countries that have yet to recognize Palestine to take similar steps, noting that such recognition would help revive the peace process and contribute to restoring peace, security, and stability across the region.
