GPC report says "there's no safe space in Gaza for persons with disabilities and older persons"

NEW YORK, July 16, 2025 (WAFA) – The Global Protection Cluster (GPC) said that there is no safe space in Gaza as 20 months of intense Israeli hostilities have destroyed the protection environment for persons with disabilities and older persons.

This came in a detailed report published by the network last night, which addressed the living and humanitarian conditions of people with disabilities, injuries, and the elderly in the Gaza Strip, 21 months after the genocide perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinians.

GPC is a network whose members include UN human rights agencies, international organizations, and other civil society non-governmental organizations.

The network stated in its report that "there is no safe place in Gaza," indicating that "the violent hostilities that have lasted for 20 months have destroyed the protective environment for people with disabilities and the elderly."

The report documented 134,105 people in the Gaza Strip, including more than 40,500 children, who suffered "new war-related injuries."

GPC estimated that "25% of the newly injured suffer new disabilities that require serious and ongoing rehabilitation."

It also noted that "more than 35,000 people suffered significant hearing damage due to the explosions."

The report noted that in the Gaza Strip, "ten children lose one or both legs every day" as a result of the war.
