RAMALLAH, May 30, 2025 (WAFA) – Effective international mechanisms are required to halt Israel’s plans to annex large swaths of the occupied West Bank, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates stated on Friday.
The Ministry said that given the expansion of Israeli settler-colonialism, manifested most recently in the approval of the construction of 22 new colonies in the occupied West Bank, including at previously dismantled sites, and incursions, effective international mechanisms shall be put in place to address Israel’s annexation plans.
Referring to Israeli ‘Defence’ Minister Yisrael Katz’s storming of the evacuated “Tarsala” colony site near Jaba’, south of Jenin, and his remarks on colonial expansion, the Ministry stressed that colonists’ intrusions into Palestinian lands, their vandalism of Palestinian property and bragging about the construction of 22 new colonies are all a new Israeli attempt aimed at the destruction of the two-state solution and a display of total disregard of the United Nations resolutions and international law.
It added that such acts also display utter disregard for the international consensus in rejection of Israeli settler-colonialism since colonial construction breaches international law and poses a direct threat to the realization of the establishment of the Palestinian state.
It affirmed that expanding the wave of recognition of the State of Palestine by European countries, ensuring the success of the upcoming high-level June conference, along with its outcomes, and supporting Palestine’s bid for full membership of the United Nations would make a robust contribution to safeguarding the two-state solution.
