Occupation authorities to revoke the citizenship of and deport 4 Palestinian citizens

TEL AVIV, May 28, 2025 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation authorities initiated on Wednesday the procedures to revoke the citizenship of and deport four Palestinian citizens of the 1948 Territories, currently held in Israeli prisons.

They have embarked on this process since the four citizens allegedly received financial stipends from the Palestinian National Authority during their incarceration.

Israeli ‘Defense’ Minister Yisrael Katz was quoted by Israeli media stating that four cases were in advanced stages of deportation under a law permitting the revocation of Israeli citizenship from individuals convicted of receiving funds from the Palestinian Authority.

Katz issued a threat of deportation, citizenship revocation, and financial repercussions for anyone who, in his words, "chooses the path of murder and hatred."

Neither did he disclose the names of the detainees facing citizenship revocation and deportation, nor indicate their potential destination should the decision be finalized.

On February 15, 2023, the Knesset, with a 95-member majority, approved an amendment to the Citizenship Law that empowers the Minister of Interior to petition the Supreme Court for the revocation of citizenship from Palestinian citizens of the 1948 Territories or the permanent residency status from Palestinian citizens of occupied East Jerusalem if they are found to have received payments from the Palestinian Authority.
