Jordan slams Israeli Minister’s storm of Al-Aqsa amid flag march tensions

AMMAN, May 26, 2025 (WAFA) – Jordan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque/ by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, accompanied by other far-right ministers, Knesset members, and large groups of Israeli colonists.

The incursion coincided with the so-called “Flag March”, and was described by Jordan as a dangerous and unacceptable provocation.

In a statement, the ministry said the incursion represented a "blatant violation of the historical and legal status quo" at the holy site, and a breach of Israel’s obligations under international law as an occupying power.

“Such incursions do not change the reality that East Jerusalem is occupied territory and that Israel holds no sovereignty over it,” the statement read.]

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Sufian Qudah denounced the participation of Israeli officials in the storming and criticized the Israeli police for facilitating what he called “repeated violations” at one of Islam’s holiest sites.

He warned that these moves constitute a serious breach of international and humanitarian law, aimed at imposing new realities at Al-Aqsa, including efforts to divide the mosque both spatially and temporally.

He demanded that Israel, as the occupying power, cease all provocative actions carried out by Ben-Gvir and extremist colonists, which are part of a broader policy aimed at escalating tensions and deepening the occupation.

“The Kingdom holds Israel fully responsible for the consequences of these provocations,” Qudah said, urging the Israeli government to halt all colonist incursions and inflammatory acts led by figures like Ben-Gvir.
