RAMALLAH, May 5, 2025 (WAFA) - The Government Communication Center at the Prime Minister’s Office has issued its weekly situation report, detailing the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people across the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and occupied Jerusalem. As Israel’s military campaigns intensify, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza deepens, alongside systematic violations targeting Palestinian civilians, infrastructure, and journalists.
This report outlines key developments from April 28 to May 5, 2025.
Continued genocide and blockade: Israel's total blockade on Gaza Strip continues for the 64th day, cutting off fuel, food, medicine, and aid, with persisting massacres through daily bombardments targeting civilians across the Strip. The healthcare collapse looms due to overwhelming injuries and lack of essential supplies.
Children starved to death: Fifty-seven children confirmed dead from malnutrition; with fears that the actual numbers may be higher. Additionally, over 70,000 children have been hospitalized due to hunger and malnutrition as Israel continues to use starvation as a weapon of war. International organizations warn: "blocking aid kills."
Gaza's shrinking space - Israel flattens Rafah: Israeli occupation army is flattening the remaining ruins of the city of Rafah; with Palestinians in Gaza fearing it is part of a plan to herd them into confinement in a giant camp on the barren ground. According to UNOCHA, 70% of Gaza is either under evacuation orders or declared 'no-go zones'.
ICJ hearings on Israel’s obligations toward UN agencies: International Court of Justice begins hearings to examine Israel's legal obligations toward the United Nations and its agencies operating in the occupied Palestinian Territory.
Occupied Jerusalem - escalating attacks on Palestinian presence: The Israeli occupation continues its systematic efforts to erode Palestinian presence in occupied Jerusalem, intensifying actions aimed at suffocating life in the occupied Palestinian capital. These measures include repeated settler incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, bans on the call to prayer, and plans to close six UNRWA schools that currently serve 800 Palestinian students.
Colonial settlement expansion, annexation and water theft: $838 million allocated for settler road networks between Palestinian areas, connecting Israeli illegal settlements in the West Bank to cities inside Israel, with 139 illegal roads (116 km) built in the West Bank between mid-2023 and mid-2024. Furthermore, Palestinians in Al-Auja in Jericho are facing a crisis as their only spring has dried up, due not just to low rainfall, but mainly to Israeli settler attacks and illegal water diversion for nearby settlements.
Journacide - Israel's systematic targeting of Palestinian journalists: On World Press Freedom Day, the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate revealed that Israel has committed 2,994 violations against Palestinian journalists, including the killing of 210 journalists and 665 family members, destruction and closure of 112 media offices, and injury, detention, or forced disappearance of hundreds of others.
