RAMALLAH, April 3, 2024 (WAFA) – UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said that nine children were killed in the Israeli occupation forces' bombing of a UN building in the northern Gaza Strip on Wednesday.
This came in a post by the UN official on X platform, commenting on the Israeli army's targeting of a UNRWA building in the northern Gaza Strip.
Lazzarini added, "Even rubble has become a target, as Israeli forces targeted the UNRWA building in Jabalia, northern Gaza," noting that the targeted UNRWA building had previously been used as a health center and had sustained extensive damage at the beginning of the attacks.
He explained that "according to initial reports, the building was sheltering 700 people when it was targeted, and that nine children, including a two-week-old infant, were among the victims."
Lazzarini indicated that those displaced by the aggression on the Gaza Strip have nowhere to go, and that even after the UNRWA building was targeted, those who had taken refuge there continued to remain there.
He pointed out that since the beginning of the aggression, more than 300 UN buildings were damaged or completely destroyed.
Lazzarini added that more than 700 people were killed while seeking UN protection during the Israeli bombing of Gaza. He stressed that the disregard for UN facilities, staff, and operations constitutes a violation of international law, calling for an independent investigation into the attacks targeting UN facilities.
