BERLIN, March 25, 2025 (WAFA) – The Bundestag's longest-serving member, the Left Party politician Gregor Gysi stated Tuesday that the Palestinian people have the right to a homeland and a state.

Delivering the opening speech before the Bundestag, Gysi said that despite the adoption of United Nations resolutions on the matter, the Palestinian people were still deprived of their homeland.

He added that the solution lies in the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state that fulfills the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights while affirming that Germany must work to help realize this.

Gysi condemned the Israeli government and the majority of the Knesset for denying this right and this path, and their adherence to the logic of force and military option.

He pointed out that given its history, Germany has a historical responsibility to end the tragedy of the Palestinian people by enabling them to establish their own independent state.
