RAMALLAH, March 5, 2025 (WAFA) – The Secretary General of the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions, Shaher Saad, handed over documents and reports on the conditions and reality of Palestinian workers to the fact-finding delegation from the International Labour Organization in Amman, Jordan, after Israel prevented the delegation from entering the Palestinian territories.
Saad handed over documents and reports highlighting the ongoing attacks against the Palestinian people in general, and Palestinian workers in particular, for over 16 months. These included reports on workers who were killed, the losses suffered by workers, unemployment rates, and recent trade union conferences.
Saad stated that the international delegation listened to and received detailed, documented reports outlining all forms of suffering endured by Palestinian workers. These reports highlighted the extent of the pain and harm inflicted upon them as a result of Israeli practices.
Saad also emphasized the important role played by the Federation in supporting Palestinian workers and monitoring all forms of oppression and harm inflicted upon them.
Two meetings were held with Saad and members of the General Secretariat; the first meeting focused on the suffering of workers employed inside the 1948-occupied territories, particularly following the genocide in Gaza, which impacted Palestinian workers through arbitrary dismissals, pursuit, and harassment, resulting in injuries and fatalities.
The second meeting provided an opportunity for workers to share their experiences, including detailed accounts from Suleiman Harizat from Yatta, south of Hebron, and Mo'taz Al-Saghir from Hebron. They described the hardships workers face when crossing into the 1948-occupied territories, highlighting the injuries, persecution, killings and exploitation they endure at the separation wall.
Meanwhile, the head of the fact-finding delegation confirmed his understanding of everything he heard, stating that his report to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Labor Organization will include all the suffering Palestinian workers endure and the blatant violations of their rights committed by the Israeli occupation government.
