PLO Secretary-General discusses escalating Israeli aggression in West Bank with senior European delegation

RAMALLAH, February 14, 2025 (WAFA) – Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Hussein al-Sheikh, met on Friday with a high-level European diplomatic delegation to discuss Israel’s escalating aggression in the West Bank and the Palestinian leadership’s firm rejection of ongoing violations, crimes and forced displacement attempts.

The meeting, held at al-Sheikh’s office in Ramallah, was attended by President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, Secretary-General of the European Parliament Alessandro Chiocchetti, EU Representative to Palestine Ambassador Alexander Stutzmann, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Varsen Aghabekian Shaheen and Head of the Negotiations Support Unit Shaddad Al-Attili.

Al-Sheikh emphasized the need for more effective European action to secure a lasting ceasefire in Gaza, ensure urgent humanitarian relief and facilitate the reconstruction process without obstacles.

He also commended the critical role played by the European Union Border Assistance Mission for the Rafah Crossing Point (EUBAM).

Furthermore, he praised the European Union’s strategic role in supporting Palestinian national rights and expressed deep appreciation for the EU’s steadfast political and humanitarian support for the Palestinian people.

For her part, the President of the European Parliament reaffirmed the EU’s full commitment to the two-state solution as the only viable path to ensuring security and stability in the region.

She stressed the importance of joint efforts to reach a just and comprehensive political settlement.

Both sides unequivocally rejected any form of forced displacement, whether temporary or permanent, underscoring that the unity of the Palestinian territories, comprising the West Bank and Gaza, is fundamental to any just and lasting political solution.
