Water Authority Chief highlights urgent needs and strategic projects during meeting with French mission

RAMALLAH, February 11, 2025 (WAFA) – Ziad Mimi, Head of the Water Authority, underscored that the priorities for the water and sanitation sector, as outlined in the authority's strategic and emergency plans, must be continuously adapted to address urgent and immediate needs driven by the current political reality. This includes the escalation of Israeli aggression, which has led to widespread, deliberate destruction of infrastructure, particularly impacting Gaza and the northern West Bank, causing significant damage to service facilities.

Mimi's remarks came during a meeting with a French mission, including officials from the French Development Agency in Palestine and a project management team, alongside a technical delegation from the Water Authority, including key directors and advisors.

Mimeh provided details on the Water Authority's emergency response plan for the upcoming six months, outlining critical water and sanitation needs in both Gaza and the West Bank. Many of these projects are already underway, in partnership with international organizations and humanitarian groups.

Furthermore, Mimi briefed them on the Authority's progress with key strategic projects.

He also closely tracked the necessary technical and financial support, especially following the suspension of projects previously funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

During the meeting, participants discussed ongoing French-funded projects and explored issues requiring the establishment of future mechanisms to allocate funds to meet humanitarian needs, which call for swift and well-coordinated actions.

Both parties agreed to further discuss the proposals put forward by the Water Authority and review the technical aspects to develop practical mechanisms for their implementation on the ground.
