International conference in Norway calls for suspending Israeli’s membership in international organizations

OSLO, February 10, 2024 (WAFA) – The Anti-Apartheid Department of the Palestine Liberation Organization participated in the international conference organized by the Free Speech, Jewish Voice, and Lower the Arms organizations in the Norwegian capital Oslo, calling for the suspension of the membership of the occupying state of Israel in international organizations.

The conference witnessed a wide attendance of prominent figures in the academic, political, human rights, and media fields, from more than thirteen countries.

The Palestinian delegation participating in the conference was headed by member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, head of the Anti-Apartheid Department, Ramzi Rabah, along with member of the European-Palestinian Initiative Against Apartheid and Colonial Settlement, George Rishmawi.

In his speech, Rabah gave a comprehensive and detailed presentation of the current situation after fifteen months of the Israeli aggression and ethnic cleansing in the Gaza Strip.

He spoke about the tragic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip due to the occupation state preventing the entry of relief and humanitarian aid, including food, fuel, medicine and temporary housing, in light of the international silence and inability to take urgent and necessary measures to stop the machine of destruction launched by the Israeli occupation government, which began to transfer its war to the camps, cities and villages in the occupied West Bank.

Rabah touched on the occupation's attempt to control the Gaza Strip and close the main office of UNRWA in occupied Jerusalem, which deprived millions of refugees from benefiting from the services provided by the agency in the fields of education, employment and health.

The conference called for taking clear decisions commensurate with the size of the risks and challenges facing the Palestinian people, stressing the need to increase the pace of popular movements and expand their scope, with the aim of pressuring Western governments to commit to implementing international legitimacy resolutions and respecting the rules of international law and international humanitarian law.

He stressed the need to activate the decisions of the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, implement them, and follow up on efforts aimed at holding war criminals accountable and punishing them, in addition to implementing decisions related to ending the occupation of the Palestinian territories that have been occupied since 1967.

At the end of his speech, the Executive Committee member stressed the continuation of the Palestinian people's just struggle and their insistence on achieving their legitimate national goals that cannot be waived, stressing the importance of adhering to the decisions of international legitimacy and international law, while adhering to their right to return to the homes from which they were displaced in 1948, and their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

The participants in the international conference called for ending the partnership agreement between the European Union and the occupying state of Israel, and imposing economic sanctions on it in the event that it does not abide by international law and stop its illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories.

They also called for taking clear measures that include depriving the occupying state of membership and freezing it in international institutions, as long as it does not abide by the laws and decisions of international legitimacy.
