RAMALLAH, February 9, 2025 (WAFA) - The president of the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), Younis Al-Khatib, concluded on Sunday an official visit to Iraq, during which he delivered a message from President Mahmoud Abbas to Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, as well as to the Iraqi government and leadership. The message expressed profound appreciation for Iraq’s political and financial support for the Palestinian people.
During his visit, Al-Khatib met with the Prime Minister's Advisor, in the presence of Palestinian Ambassador to Iraq, Ahmed Al-Ruwaidi. He briefed the Iraqi officials on the dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, which has endured over 15 months of devastating Israeli aggression. Al-Khatib emphasized the urgent need for immediate humanitarian aid and called for increased international efforts to restore life to the Strip.
Al-Khatib also expressed his gratitude to the Iraqi government for renewing its humanitarian grant, which includes a donation of ten million liters of diesel fuel to meet the urgent humanitarian needs in Gaza. This aid will be delivered through a joint cooperation mechanism involving the Iraqi Red Crescent, the Egyptian Red Crescent, and the Palestine Red Crescent.
Al-Khatib emphasized that the Palestine Red Crescent Society remains committed to making substantial efforts through its Arab and international relations to deliver humanitarian, relief, and medical aid to the people in Gaza, who have suffered from hunger, killing, and displacement for more than a year.
