Nasser Medical Complex is within hours of losing power as fuel embargo continues, says medical sources in Gaza

GAZA, Thursday, July 4 2024 (WAFA) – Medical sources warned that the electricity generators at the Nasser Medical Complex in the city of Khan Yunis would stop during the next few hours.

The sources reported that the Complex is the only remaining main hospital that provides service to patients after the Gaza European Hospital went out of service in the Khan Yunis and Rafah governorates, as a result of the lack of necessary fuel.

The sources said that work has been suspended in some departments within the Nasser Medical Complex.

They appealed to all concerned, international and humanitarian institutions to intervene and quickly provide the fuel necessary to operate the generators.

It is noteworthy that only 15 out of 36 hospitals in the Gaza Strip are operating, and all of them are partially functioning, and are facing a severe shortage of workers and medical supplies, including anesthesia and antibiotics.

About 500 health sector staff were killed, hundreds were injured, the Israeli occupation forces detained more than 310 others, and the occupation forces destroyed 130 ambulances during their ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip for 9 months.

The World Health Organization warns that the volume of medical supplies entering Gaza is insufficient to sustain the health response and that all medical evacuations outside Gaza remain halted.
