RAMALLAH, Wednesday, May 22, 2024 (WAFA) – For the 16th day in a row, Israel continued to close the Rafah border crossing and Kraem Abu Salem commercial crossing in the southern Gaza Strip, amidst warnings of a humanitarian catastrophe.
On May 7, the occupation forces controlled the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing and stopped the flow of aid to the Gaza Strip.
The Kerem Abu Salem commercial crossing, southeast of the city of Rafah, has also been shut down by the occupation since May 5, preventing the entry of humanitarian and medical aid into the Strip.
During the period of closure, the occupation forces banned the entry of more than 3,000 aid trucks into the Strip and prevented about 700 sick and wounded people from leaving the besieged Gaza Strip to receive treatment abroad, according to press sources.
On Sunday, the World Health Organization warned that: “Supplies of essential medicines and fuel are very low in the Gaza Strip and movement is limited due to security restrictions [imposed by the Israeli occupation].”
