Newspapers Review: Israeli aggression on Gaza focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, May 10, 2023 (WAFA) – News about the massive Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, which killed 15 Palestinians and injured more than 20 others, hit the front pages of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Wednesday.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that at least 15 Palestinians, including four children and four women, were killed early Tuesday morning and 20 others were injured in a series of Israeli airstrikes ushering in a new aggression on the besieged Gaza Strip.

They said a series of Israeli airstrikes targeted several homes and residential buildings across the besieged Gaza Strip, resulting in the murder of Jihad Ghannam, 62, Khaled Al-Buheiti, 44, and Tareq Izz al-Din, in addition to members of their households, including children and women.

The Palestinian presidency condemned Israel’s escalation in the aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, as reported in the papers.

"We condemn this dangerous Israeli escalation against our people, which targeted children, women, and homes in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem, the latest of which was the killing of 13 civilians, including women and children, in the Gaza Strip, and the injury of 13 people from bullets in Nablus, in addition to the ongoing storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque,” said the official presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh.

The dailies also said that Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh strongly condemned what he described as “the horrific massacre” committed by the Israeli occupation authorities against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, describing the aggression as organized state terrorism.

Russia today expressed sorrow over the killing of a Russian national in Israeli airstrikes on the besieged Gaza Strip. The Russian Representative Office to the Palestinian Authority voiced in a tweet its sorrow over the killing of a Jamal Khuswan, a well-known dentist, in the series of airstrikes launched by the Israeli army on Gaza,  as reported in the newspapers.

The dailies said that Israeli occupation forces shot and injured 13 Palestinians while many others suffered from inhaling toxic tear gas, and detained two people, according to medical and local sources.

They added that Israeli settlers set up tents on Palestinian-owned lands in the village of Jabaa, to the west of Bethlehem city, which is usually a prelude to taking over the land.

The Israeli occupation forces notified the demolition of a home and ordered to stop work on a school and another home in the village of Ma’een in Masafer Yatta in the South Hebron Hills, said the newspapers.
