JERICHO, Friday, May 5, 2023 (WAFA) - The Israeli occupation forces continue to impose a siege on the ancient and tourist city of Jericho, east of the occupied West Bank, for the 14th day in a row causing millions of dollars in losses to its economy.

WAFA correspondent reported that the occupation forces continue to set up military checkpoints at all entrances of the city, stopping and searching vehicles and trucks, checking the identity cards of passengers, and impeding the movement of people and goods.

According to the latest statistics for the Jericho governorate and the Jordan Valley, nine Palestinians were killed by Israeli army gunfire since the beginning of the year whose age did not exceed 28 years, 45 were wounded, and 137 were detained. In addition, 12 Palestinian homes were demolished and 55 others received demolition orders. Israel is still holding the bodies of six Palestinians it has killed since the start of the year.

Since Jericho is a tourist city, the total losses of the city in the tourism sector and related sectors from February until April amounted to $60 million, while losses during the holidays last month amounted to $30 million.
