AMMAN, Thursday, September 10, 2020 (WAFA) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for the Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said today that 60 new coronavirus cases and one death were reported among the Palestinian refugee community in Jordan during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the UNRWA said in a statement that it has decided to shut down 14 UNRWA-run schools in the kingdom for 14 days and rather send about 12,000 students to distance education during this period, after dozens of coronavirus cases were confirmed in these schools.

"The Agency is making every effort to protect the Palestinian refugees, and is communicating and following up with the Jordanian Ministry of Health and all the concerned parties regarding the affected cases and the spike increase in their number in the refugee camps," said Mohammad Adar, UNRWA's Director of Operations in Jordan.

He pointed out that since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in Jordan, the Agency has changed its service delivery mechanism, including the delivery of medicines for chronic diseases to the homes of refugees, the activation of remote education through the various platforms, and the designation of emergency numbers to respond to any inquiries by refugees.
