RAMALLAH, November 5, 2013 (WAFA) – Palestinian prisoners in Megiddo prison in northern Israel rioted Tuesday following reports of the death of an inmate in hospital, the Ministry of Prisoners Affairs said in a statement.
Hassan Turabi, 22, died in an Israeli hospital suffering from leukemia after being held in Megiddo prison for 10 months.
The ministry said the Israeli prison guards attacked the prisoners, beating them up and causing more than 20 injuries among them, some of them reported in serious condition.
It also said prisoners in the south of Israel have declared a two-day hunger strike to protest Turabi's death.
