RAMALLAH, September 9, 2013 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies Monday highlighted US plans to attack Syria with the papers focusing on Washington’s diplomatic efforts to win support for its military operation.

Al-Quds said the US administration was continuing efforts to win support for a military act against Syria, while al-Hayat al-Jadida said the US was intensifying preparations for the strike and al-Ayyam said the strikes will go on for 72 hours and will hit a wide range of targets.

The papers also highlighted the meeting between President Mahmoud Abbas and US Secretary of State John Kerry held in London Sunday night and another meeting held earlier between Kerry and members of the Arab follow-up committee on the peace process held in Paris.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Abbas received an invitation from the Emir of Kuwait t o attend the Arab-African summit, which will be held there around the end of November.

Al-Quds said Israeli forces fired several tear gas canisters at the Abu Dis campus of al-Quds University causing serious suffocation cases among dozens of students. Israeli patrols parade the area of the campus provoking students and triggering the clashes.

It said in another story that Israel has started to build a new settlement west of Salfit in the north of the West Bank, while issuing demolition orders against homes in Silwan, East Jerusalem, and al-Khader, near Bethlehem.

Al-Ayyam quoted PLO member Hanan Ashrawi and Nabil Shaath, member of Fatah Central Committee, warning Europe against going back on its decision to impose restrictions on Israeli settlement products, with both saying that this will have a negative impact on the negotiations.

The papers also reported on the confusion caused when the clocks automatically changed by midnight Saturday mistakenly ushering in winter time. The clocks in Israel and Palestine officially change around the end of October.
