RAMALLAH, September 8, 2013
(WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies brought light to the increasing
tension in Washington as US President Barack Obama awaits the congressional
authorization to carry out a military action in Syria.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida’s front page
highlighted news saying that the Congress’s vote on the military strike in
Syria is threatening Obama’s presidency.
It reported that “25 senators are
to say yes to military action against Syria” according to media poll.
Al-Quds featured news regarding
the timing of the military action in Syria. The headline read: “Conflicting
expectations as to when the strike against Syria will take place.”
The three papers printed
different photos of US protestors gathered in front of the White House to
object the US government’s intentions to strike Syria.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida focused on the
Europeans’ support of an unmilitary and firm response in Syria, while Obama
intensifies efforts to gain the Americans and the congress’s support.
Al-Ayyam’s main story for the day
was Washington’s pressuring the European Union to postpone the execution of its
decision to label illegal Israeli settlements’ products.
It quoted PLO Member Saeb Erekat
saying that the negotiations’ “resumption with the ongoing settlements’
activities will be impossible.”
