WAFA to Host Meeting for Med News Agencies

RAMALLAH, June 13, 2013 (WAFA) – The Palestinian News and Information Agency, WAFA, is going to be the host of the 22nd general assembly meeting of the Alliance of Mediterranean New Agencies (AMAN), officials said Thursday.

The two-day conference will open on Friday in the presence of representatives from 14 agencies, out of the 19 AMAN member agencies, who will discuss strengthening cooperation and exchange of information between them.

WAFA asked AMAN general assembly during its last year’s meeting in Rome to host this year’s conference and its request was approved, which will make it the current chair until the next general assembly meeting next year.

Riyad al-Hasan, WAFA chairman of the board, said agreeing to hold AMAN meeting in Ramallah and to be hosted by WAFA shows the appreciation of the alliance for the role WAFA plays in covering the news and its cooperation with area agencies.

He said becoming a non-member state of the United Nations last year has “strengthened the status of all our institutions on the international level.”

In addition to the discussions which will be held on the first day, WAFA has also organized a tour for the delegates to the Jordan Valley, Hebron and Bethlehem on Saturday to see firsthand the difficult life for Palestinians under Israeli occupation.
