NEW YORK, May 4, 2025 (WAFA) — The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has warned that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is "beyond imagination" as Israel's total blockade on the besieged enclave enters its ninth consecutive week.
In a statement posted on the agency’s official X account, UNRWA stressed the urgent need for international action to prevent the catastrophe from escalating to an "unseen level."
UNRWA renewed its call for an immediate ceasefire, highlighting the dire consequences of the ongoing Israeli aggression and the continued closure of crossings into Gaza.
On Friday, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini warned that Israel’s blockade is "silently killing" more children and women every day, in addition to those being killed by direct military strikes.
Since March 2, Israel has kept Gaza’s crossings shut to food, medicine, fuel, and essential goods, causing what humanitarian groups describe as a rapid and dangerous deterioration of already desperate conditions for the 2.4 million residents.
