RAMALLAH, June 11, 2012 (WAFA) – Al-Ayyam front page story of its Monday issue reported that striking Palestinian prisoner Mahmoud Sarsak is in a critical condition after 88 days of hunger strike.
Minister of Prisoners Issa Qaraqi said Sarsak was transferred to Assaf Harofeh hospital in Israel in serious condition.
Later reports said Sarsak was returned to Ramleh prison clinic and that he was in stable condition.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted PLO Executive Committee member Saeb Erekat denying reports about a meeting between President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz saying that these claims were “test balloons.”
Al-Quds featured a report by the Civic Coalition for Palestinian Rights in Jerusalem which stated that there were 15 Israeli settlements in East Jerusalem housing over 210, 000 Jewish settlers.
It featured a Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics report which said that 25.8% of Individuals in the Palestinian Territory who suffer from poverty during 2011.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on a news story from the Israeli paper Haaretz which said that senior officials in Israel warn that settlement activities and recurring attacks against mosques by settlers can trigger a third intifada.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida focused on Israel accusing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad of genocide and calling for immediate military intervention in Syria.
