LONDON, May 16, 2012 (WAFA) – Britain welcomed Wednesday the agreement reached on Monday between the Israel Prison Service and around 2000 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails that ended their month-long hunger strike after Israel had agreed to most of the prisoners' demands.
British Foreign Secretary William Hague said in a statement that 'we commend all sides, including the Palestinian Authority, the prisoners’ representatives and the Egyptian authorities and the Israeli Government, for their role in finding a solution which prevents loss of life.”
He said that the British government “particularly welcomes the Israeli Government’s agreement to limit the use of administrative detention and solitary confinement and reinstate family visits for detainees.”
Hague said that “increased confidence between all the parties to the Middle East peace process is crucial and we hope that this positive step can be built upon in the months to come.”
