JERUSLAEM, May 15, 2012 (WAFA) - Quartet representative Tony Blair Monday welcomed the agreement between the Israel Prison Service and the Palestinian prisoners, which has enabled the prisoners to end their hunger strike, said a statement issued by Blair’s office.
The Quartet representative said that he was pleased in particular that the Israeli authorities have agreed to release from solitary confinement all prisoners held in these conditions and welcomed the “important decision” to limit the use of administrative detentions.
“As stated before, I have engaged Israeli officials several times over the past week urging them to resolve the crisis expeditiously in order to avoid a tragic outcome which had the potential to destabilize conditions on the ground,” said Blair.
