RAMALLAH, May 13, 2012 (WAFA) –President Mahmoud Abbas Saturday received Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s response to his previous letter on the halted peace process.
Abbas met with the Israeli envoy, Yitzhak Molcho, who delivered Netanyahu’s letter, in Ramallah and called on Israel to immediately end the suffering of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and urged the immediate release of all prisoners, especially those arrested prior to 1994.
Abbas emphasized the importance of meeting the prisoners’ just demands to end isolation policy; allow visitation rights including families of Gazan prisoners; uphold prisoners’ right to education; and improve their living and health conditions in jails.
He further stressed that the path to resume negotiations demands Israeli halt of settlement activities in Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, as well as acceptance of the principle of the two-state solution.
