RAMALLAH, May 3, 2012 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian dailies Thursday highlighted the ongoing prisoners’ hunger strike and the protests in solidarity with them taking place across the West Bank.
Al-Ayyam reported on the numerous demonstrations in solidarity with the Palestinian prisoners who went on an open-ended hunger strike since April 17 to protest administrative detention and other issues.
The paper printed a photo of Palestinians marching towards Ofer prison near Ramallah to express solidarity with the striking prisoners resulting in a number of injuries following clashes with Israeli soldiers.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Bilal Diab, who has been on a hunger strike for 65 days, was transferred to Ramleh military hospital after a severe deterioration in his health.
Al-Quds reported on the meeting between Fatah and Hamas in Cairo, headed by Hamas Leader Khaled Meshaal and Fatah Central Committee member Azzam al-Ahmad, which didn’t result in anything fundamental.
It highlighted Israel Channel 10 claims that Meshaal tried to secretly contact former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert after Hamas won the legislative elections in 2006.
