Palestinians Rally in Support of Prisoners

RAMALLAH, April 17, 2012 (WAFA) – Thousands of Palestinians Tuesday rallied across the West Bank and the Gaza Strip in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails marking the Prisoner Day.

Popular, factional and official figures addressed hundreds of Palestinians who gathered in the cities of Ramallah, Nablus, Tulkarm, Qalqilya and Gaza expressing their support for the prisoners who started Tuesday an open-ended hunger strike to demand better prison conditions and the release of all administrative detainees.

Demonstrators raised banners and flags supporting the prisoners and calling for their release and chanted slogans against Israeli practices and measures.

In Ramallah, participants headed to the nearby Israeli military camp, Ofer, to rally against Israeli policies. Clashes erupted between the protesters and Israeli soldiers afterwards.
