RAMALLAH, February 9, 2012 (WAFA) – The three Arabic Palestinian dailies Thursday highlighted Hamas’ refusal to name President Mahmoud Abbas head of the new reconciliation government.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam front page stories highlighted Hamas members’ refusal of the Doha agreement and Abbas heading the new reconciliation government.
Al-Ayyam quoted Central Elections Commission (CEC) chairman, Hanna Nasser saying: “There will be no elections in May.”
Al-Hayat al-Jadida featured Abbas’ meeting with US special envoy to the Middle East, David Hale, during which Abbas said that there is no contradiction between peace and reconciliation.
Al-Quds highlighted the killing of more than 60 Syrian civilians, mostly in Homs, during clashes.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida featured a poll conducted by the Near East Consulting group that shows 79% of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip support Abbas heading the new reconciliation government.
The daily reported on Hamas’ Change and Reform list’s calls to reconsider Abbas heading the new government and Fatah Revolutionary Council affirming the decision abides by Palestinian law.
The three papers printed photos of the demonstrations across the West Bank in solidarity with the Palestinian prisoners and against settlers’ attacks.
