Israel Arrests International Activist in Yatta

HEBRON, December 3, 2011 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Saturday arrested an international activist and a Palestinian who were protesting in the weekly non-violent demonstration against settlements and the Apartheid Wall in Yatta, a town south of Hebron, according to a local activist.

The Popular Committee Coordinator in Yatta, Rateb Jabour, said that Israeli soldiers assaulted dozens of demonstrators who protested against the Israeli arbitrary policies, demolition of Palestinian property and the demolition notice for Susiya school.

Soldiers arrested an international activist and a Palestinian, and battered protesters causing bruises to several of them.

In a related matter, Israeli forces also attacked the weekly non-violent demonstration against settlements and the Apartheid Wall in Beit Ummar, a town north of Hebron, according to a local activist.

Yousef Abu Maria, spokesman for the Popular Committee against the Wall in Beit Ummar, said Israeli soldiers shot tear gas canisters and smoke bombs at Palestinian protesters, which resulted in many suffocation cases.

The demonstrators were protesting attacks by Israeli soldiers against them and preventing Palestinian farmers from accessing their land near Karmi Tzur settlement under the pretext that it was a “closed military area,” added Abu Maria.
