CAIRO, November 24, 2011 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal agreed in Cairo on Thursday to work together as partners with one responsibility.
Abbas told reporters in Cairo after meeting Meshaal that “the atmosphere was positive, particularly since there weren’t any differences when we discussed the various issues.”
He said, “We discussed everything, particularly political developments facing the Palestinian cause in all its details. We want very much to work as partners and we have a joint responsibility toward our people and cause.”
Abbas added: “We discussed all details about reconciliation and would like to tell you that there are no differences between us at all on any of the issues. You will see all of this in the coming days and weeks.”
Abbas thanked Egypt for its efforts in bringing reconciliation between the Palestinians.
“Egypt worked relentlessly to prepare the reconciliation agreement which we signed in May,” he said, “and it is now relentlessly following it with us.”
Meshaal said the meeting created positive atmosphere that would give the Palestinian cause and the reconciliation a push forward.
He said, “I want to reassure our people inside and outside that with this meeting we have opened a new page of a high level of understanding, concern for partnership and seriousness in implementing not only the terms of the reconciliation agreement, but all that has to do with organizing the Palestinian home and dealing with the present and future stages.”
He added: “Everyone should be confident and wait for developments on the ground, and not just words. The atmosphere is positive and we hope our people and all the factions will help us to achieve the best interest of our cause.”
