RAMALLAH, November 24, 2011 (WAFA) – The front pages of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies Thursday focused on the meeting of President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas Leader, Khalid Meshaal, in Cairo to discuss steps to achieve the Palestinian reconciliation.
Al-Ayyam also reported on the Cairo meeting between Abbas and Egyptian Chief Military Commander, Mohamed Tantawi, in which they discussed political developments in the Palestinian Territory under the Israeli occupation and ongoing settlement activities.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida printed a photo of Abbas and Tantawi in Cairo.
Al-Ayyam highlighted the rejection by Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, of US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton’s, demands to release Palestinian tax revenues.
It quoted Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, Avigdor Lieberman, saying, “We will not transfer one shekel to a unity government.”
The three dailies also reported on the current protests in Tahrir Square in Cairo and others in Syria and Yemen, which resulted in the death of a number of civilians.
Al-Quds editorial highlighted the Israeli decision to withhold the Palestinian Authority’s tax revenues and considered it “a theft and a challenge of the law.”
It also discussed the Gulf Cooperation Council’s (GCC) settlement agreement, signed with President of Yemen, Ali Saleh, to solve the Yemeni political crisis.
