JERUSALEM, November 14, 2011 (WAFA) – Quartet envoys meeting separately with Palestinian and Israeli officials in Jerusalem on Monday called on the parties to create a conducive environment for restarting negotiations, according to a statement issued by United Nations office in Jerusalem.

It said that the envoys and Quartet representative Tony Blair “discussed with the parties their development of proposals on territory and security in the context of our shared commitment to direct talks on the basis of the 23 September 2011 Quartet statement.”

The envoys had asked Palestinians and Israelis in their October 26 meeting to come up within three months with proposals on how to solve the security and territory issue.

“Envoys called upon the parties to create a conducive environment for restarting talks and urged the parties to refrain from provocative actions,” said the statement.

“Envoys continued to encourage the parties to resume direct bilateral negotiations without delay or preconditions,” it said.

A follow-on meeting will be held in December.

In addition to the UN, the Quartet includes the United States, European Union and Russia.
