ROMA, November 2, 2011 (WAFA) – Italy expressed Wednesday deep apprehension for Israel’s decision to authorize new settlements in the occupied areas of East Jerusalem and the West Bank and to freeze payment of the tax revenues it collects from the Palestinian Authority, according to a statement by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ministry of foreign affairs spokesperson Maurizio Massari said, “Such acts are not helpful in establishing a climate of trust between the parties, necessary to rescue the negotiations, and are contradictory to the spirit and letter of the Quartet’s final Declaration of September 23.”
