UNRWA Expresses Concern over Activities Today in its School in Shufat

JEUSALEM, November 2, 2011 (WAFA) – UNRWA expressed its concern over activities held by students in its school today in Shufat camp to mark the release of the Palestinian prisoners, said a press release by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) published Wednesday.

UNRWA expressed its concern over this event and voiced its protest since these activities run counter to the inviolability of United Nations premises and violate its principles of neutrality and impartiality.

The statement said that UNRWA has become aware of unauthorized activities taking place in the Basic School for Boys No. 2 in Shufat camp today to mark the release of the Palestinian prisoners.

In view of UNRWA’s concern over the safety of students enrolled in its school, it has decided to release them by noon today as a preemptive measure against any unexpected incident.

UNRWA would like to clarify that it received no official request to use its premises nor did it give its permission to do so. UNRWA is doing its utmost to ensure that such an incident is avoided in the future, so that it serves the Palestine refugees in the most effective and appropriate manner, the statement concluded.
