RAMALLAH, November 2, 2011 (WAFA) - Hamdan Taha, assistant undersecretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Wednesday said the ministry is in process of activating the addition of 20 Palestinian historical and archaeologist sites to the world’s heritage inventory, following Palestine’s full admission to UNESCO.
He told Voice of Palestine radio that the Palestinian Authority is ready to activate the folder that was prepared to include Bethlehem and Hebron in the world heritage inventory.
He said that Palestine is now able to sign the protection of the world’s heritage inventory and to enjoy the full benefits of the member states of UNESCO.
Taha added that the most prominent of these sites include Hebron, Bethlehem and Nablus in addition to several archaeologist sites such as the Tel el-Sultan site in Jericho, the site of Khirbet Qumran near the shores of the Dead Sea, Wadi Gaza, Hebron hills, Umm al Rehan forests (mother of basil) in Jenin, and the old port of Gaza.
