RAMALLAH, October 30, 2011 (WAFA) - Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS) Sunday in a press release condemned withdrawal by the Israeli authorities of a Palestinian journalist’s access-permit to his workplace in Jerusalem.
PJS said Abdul Karim Abu Arqoub, a journalist in al-Quds daily, was stopped and detained at Qalandia checkpoint between Jerusalem and Ramallah without being given reasons; he was later informed that his permit was canceled.
The press release said PJS considered the Israeli decision as breaching the freedom of the press and violating journalists’ rights, stressing that the syndicate will pursue legal action against the decision.
Abu Arqoub has been an employee for al-Quds newspaper for several years and regularly receives permit access to the daily’s headquarters in Atarot industrial zone near Jerusalem.
