RAMALLAH, October 27, 2011 (WAFA) – Each of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted a different subject on their front pages in their Thursday issue.
Al-Ayyam chose to highlight statements by Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman against President Mahmoud Abbas and official Palestinian reaction to them. Al-Hayat al-Jadida had the story on its front page, but at a lower place on the page. Al-Quds did not even carry this story on its front page
Al-Quds front page main story highlighted meetings the Quartet representatives held separately in Jerusalem with Palestinian and Israeli officials. It reported on the statement the Quartet representatives had issued following the meeting in which they said the two parties have agreed to make proposals on security and borders within three months.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida’s main front page story was on Palestine application for membership at UNESCO and the United States and Europe’s opposition. It quoted Foreign Minister Riad Malki as saying that the US threat of financial boycott of UNESCO if it admits Palestine as full member seems to have left an impact on some of the member states.
The Quartet meetings was also highlighted on the front pages of the dailies, in addition to stories such as the meeting of Fatah Revolutionary Council, which started on Wednesday and will go on for three days, and Prime Minister Salam Fayyad’s inauguration of a German-funded health center in the Jordan Valley.
Al-Ayyam had a story on its front page by its correspondent Abdul Raouf Arnaout on a day in the life of President Abbas. The writer discusses Abbas’ workday on one of his latest trips abroad and says that Abbas does not really get any time to sleep when he travels.
Al-Quds had a front page story from a speech former US peace envoy George Mitchell gave in London.
