RAMALLAH, October 22, 2011 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies Saturday focused on two main issues: President Mahmoud Abbas meetings in Cairo and the killing of Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi.
Al-Quds featured Abbas meeting with members of the Egyptian press in Cairo in which he said that the Palestinian leadership has accepted the Quartet’s latest statement and is ready to resume negotiations with Israel as long as Israel recognizes the 1967 borders and halts settlements.
It quoted Abbas as saying, “We will resume negotiations if Israel accepts the Quartet’s statement.”
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida also reported on Abbas’ press briefing in which he declared that the PA is ready to establish a Palestinian state and go back to negotiations.
Al-Ayyam headline read, “New Details and Secrets: How Moammar Gaddafi was killed?” A photo was printed of Libyan rebels celebrating the liberation of the city of Sirte.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida focused on the liberation of Libya after Gaddafi’s death and the United Nations calls to open an investigation into Gaddafi’s murder.
It printed a photo of the house in which Gaddafi was hiding in his hometown of Sirte.
The three dailies also featured US President Barak Obama’s announcement to withdraw US forces from Iraq by the end of 2011.
Al-Quds editorial held the Israeli government responsible for the growing incitement against the Palestinians after extremist Israeli figures had called and set rewards for the killing of released Palestinian prisoners.
The daily condemned what it called Israeli government hypocrisy following the arrest of 16 Israeli Arabs, who protested in support of the release of all Palestinian prisoners, under the pretext of raising Palestinian flags and allegedly calling for the abduction of more Israeli soldiers to swap them with the remaining Palestinian prisoners.
