WAFA Monitors Racism and Incitement in Israeli Media

RAMALLAH, October 9, 2011 (WAFA) - Palestine News and Information Agency (WAFA) monitored incitement and racism against the Palestinians and Arabs published by the Israeli media between September 22 and 29.

Moshe Arens published an article in the Israeli daily Haaretz, in which he criticized the United Nations state members’ support of the Palestinian application to gain membership in UN.

Arens said, “When the Palestinian ambassador to the UN, Ma’an Ereikat said in his statement that the future Palestinian state will be free of Jews, so Jews have to be evacuated from the land that the PLO considers part of the Palestinian state. This means that the countries which support the Palestinian application are actually voting in favor of Jews ethnic cleansing.”

‘Israel Today’ newspaper published an article by Knesset Member for Likud party, Zeev Elkin, in which he called on the Israeli government to take over Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) and annex it to the state of Israel, in retaliation of the Palestinian unilateral move to gain a state.

The Palestinians should waive the right to return and recognize Israel as a Jewish state if they want a state, but the Palestinian leadership isn’t capable and doesn’t have the intention to do so, Elkin said.

He recommended to start by annexing the Israeli settlements in the West Bank, and to change the Israeli government’s current policy from “If Palestinians give, they can take,” to “if they take, we take too.”

“Abbas instigates, thousands cheer for him in Ramallah” was the headline of kikarhashabat website’s news piece on Abbas’ address to the UN General Assembly on September 23.

The daily accused Abbas of “intensively instigating against Israel from the rostrum of UN.” The religious website pointed the finger at Abbas for accusing Israel of demolishing mosques and houses, as well as injuring and killing Palestinian civilians, and “then he talks about peace efforts.”

Yedioth Ahronoth published an article by Hagai Siegel, a member of a terrorist group targeting Palestinians, in which he lashed out against the Arab Knesset Member Ahmad Tibi, who accompanied Abbas to New York to apply for Palestinian statehood membership in September.

Siegel accused Tibi of being double-faced; cashing his salary from the Israeli government but serving a hostile state.

He added, “There are no limits of Tibi’s insolence because there’s no limit of Israel’s tolerance to insult,” blaming Israel for willing to sign new agreements with Abbas even after he breached Oslo accords by heading to UN.

Siegel also accused Abbas of demanding a Palestinian state free from Jews, and another bi-national Palestinian state (referring to Israel).

Sima Kadmon published an opinion piece in Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, in which she criticized both Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speeches to UN General Assembly.

She described Abbas’ speech as “malicious” and “faulty,” and said “he toyed with the Israeli right wing when he referred to a 63-year old occupation, thus bringing back the Palestinians to the 1948 land, not the 1967 borders.”

“Abbas’ supporters among the Israeli left wing might claim that his speech was the hopeless result of his frustration at the Israeli government’s ongoing failure, but that’s an excuse; Abbas must build peace with the Israelis first,” she added.

Yedioth Ahronoth reporter, Rony Shaked claimed that new voices inside Fatah movement called to renew terrorist attacks against Jewish settlers and the Israeli army.

Shaked called on the Israelis not to be fooled by the “illusion of recent prevailed peace,” asserting that the Palestinian sense of ‘resistance’ is buried too deep in the Palestinian community and has only been hibernating for the past four years.

He furthermore warned from a violent Palestinian reaction under the pressure of anticipation for the outcome of the Palestinian request to UN membership.

Journalist Dan Margalit published an article in ‘Israel Today’ newspaper, in which he compared between Abbas and Netanyahu’s addresses to UN.

He described Abbas’ speech as ‘inciting and deceitful’, saying “Netanyahu talked about two states for two nations, whereas Abbas talked about two states but didn’t mention any people, virtually erasing the existence of the Jewish nation.”

Margalit accused Abbas of falsifying historical events, saying the Palestinians started al-Nakba by attacking the Jewish state in 1947.

Marglalit also accused Abbas of manipulating facts on the ground when he lied and incited about the Israeli army’s attacks and use of special weapons against Palestinians.

“Abbas doesn’t want peace. He wants to destroy Israel piece by piece, starting with 1967 borders and then moving to erase it,” Margalit added.

Eric Bender published a news piece on the Israeli newspaper Maariv’s website ‘NRG’, in which he reported on a letter by the Land of Israel Lobby in the Knesset to Netanyahu that demanded to impose sanctions on the Palestinians in retaliation of the Palestinian move.

“Netanyahu should take measures to prove to the Palestinian leadership that Israel will not be an open target! On the contrary, Israel knows its interest and its ability to turn every crisis to an opportunity,” the letter said.

The Knesset lobby called to gradually annex settlements in Judea and Samaria, stop transferring money to PA, increase the Israeli presence in the West Bank, stop any Palestinian construction in area C (completely under the Israeli control), and withdraw VIP privileges from senior Palestinian officials.

NRG website reported on a campaign launched by the “Save the Jewish Land and People” committee in the West Bank, which called on Israelis living there to “shoot to kill” at Palestinian stone throwers.

Nurit Granger, in an article published on NFC website, claimed that UN is a dangerous international organization that needs to be dismantled, describing it as “the temple of hypocrisy and shame.”

“Members of this organization, that was originally established to protect human rights and end wars, now support terrorism and encourage wars,” she accused.

Granger incited against Abbas, saying “he’s not a president of a state; he is the head on the murderous terrorist organization PLO.”

She criticized the standing ovation and applause by which international delegations responded to Abbas’ address to UN, in contrast to the dull response to Netanyahu’s speech, describing Abbas’ speech as full hatred towards Israel and contempt to US.

“The truth is that the Palestinians are insulting US, which heavily provides financial and political support to them,” she said.

“It’s time for PA to pay for its stubbornness and betrayal. It’s time Israel makes those Arabs, calling themselves ‘Palestinians’, pay for their actions. It’s time for Israel to control Judea and Samaria and tell those Arabs that they can have their hateful terrorist state of war, but not in Israel,” Granger incited.
