RAMALLAH, October 4, 2011 (WAFA) – Minister of Detainees Affairs, Issa Qaraqe, Tuesday said the meeting held between the prisoners’ representatives and Israeli prison administration in Ramon Israeli prison failed due to the Israeli lack of cooperation regarding the prisoners’ demands.
According to a press release by the ministry, the prisoners’ representative, prisoner Jamal Rjoub, said the meeting was fruitless due to the administration’s refusal to respond to the prisoners’ demands.
The prison’s administration promised to study nine of the prisoners’ demands but the outcome was further threats of escalation, Rjoub said.
Qaraqe called on the Palestinians to hold more activities in solidarity with the prisoners and to pressure the government of Israel to respond to the prisoners’ humane demands.
To be noted, Israel holds 6000 Palestinian prisoners, including 38 female prisoners, 285 minors, 750 administrative prisoners, 22 lawmakers, 20 prisoners in solitary confinement and 143 prisoners sentenced for life, all distributed over 22 prisons in Israel.
