RAMALLAH, October 4, 2011 (WAFA) – The Palestinian government will pay full salaries on Wednesday for the month of September to its 150,000 employees in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, said Bassam Zakarneh, head of the Palestinian Public Employees Union, on Tuesday.
Zakarneh praised the Arab countries’ financial support to the Palestinian Authority, as well as the European statements of support to the Palestinians and the peace process in the region.
He considered US threats to cut financial aid to the PA as indicating “its lack of intergrity,” and warned against the use of salaries as a means of pressuring the PA, because this will only lead to increased tension in the Middle East and affect the peace process in the region.
The PA will pay full salaries to its employees after Saudi Arabia granted it $200 million in budget support last month.
