Settlement Expansion a Concern, says Quartet Representative

JERUSALEM, September 28, 2011 (WAFA) – Quartet representative Tony Blair Wednesday expressed concern over Israeli plans to expand an East Jerusalem settlement.

A statement issued by Blair’s office said the Israeli plan to build 1100 new housing units in the settlement of Gilo, south of Jerusalem, “is a cause for concern at a time when we are working to restart negotiations.”

“Our position has always been very clear in opposing construction in settlements, and any acts that are not in accordance with the obligations of the parties in the Road Map,” said the statement.

“Last Friday's quartet statement called on all the parties to refrain from provocative actions and I repeat that call today.”
