EUPOL COPPS Refurbishes Salfit Police Operations Room

RAMALLAH, September 28, 2011 (WAFA) - The Palestinian Civil Police ( PCP ) received the last items for the refurbishment and equipping of the operations rooms of its Salfit District Police Station, that has been donated by EUPOL COPPS, Wednesday said an EUPOL COPPS press release.

These items include furniture and the supplementary equipment (air conditioning system, LCD TV screens connected to the system for portraying images from the computers, the media or CCTV cameras, etc) that is needed for a modern and efficient command and control room.

This project has been coordinated by EUPOL COPPS’ Command and Control Expert, Andrew Udall, who at the hand-over said, “I have been working very closely with my PCP counterpart to enhance and develop the PCP ’s Operations Rooms capability and this is just the first of many significant successes we will achieve together.

“We have also designed the Central Operations Room for Ramallah and work is now in progress to build and fully equip this facility.  Command and Control capability is vital to the running of all front line operational policing activity, so important in delivering a professional and fully co-ordinated policing service to the communities of the West Bank,” added Udall.

The Salfit District Commander, Lt. Col. Ala Shalabi highlighted that, “We receive hundreds of phone calls from citizens to our 100 number, which have to be dealt with in an appropriate manner and might need an immediate operational response from our side. For me it is the main tool of coordination between the District Command and the police officers in the field.”

“The control rooms are also of great importance for the coordination of relevant events that need the deployment of the Civil Police, such as the VIP visits, big ceremonies, elections, etc.), and play also as centers for the collection of data that is fed to the Central Command in Ramallah for the development of statistics and databases,” added SHALABI.

Complementing this will be the computerized Incident Recording and Management system, currently in the developmental stage with other partners and supported by the EUPOL COPPS’ Police adviser, who is providing expert advice on the practical layout of the system, making it as user friendly and operationally functional as possible.  In this development, it is hoped that EUPOL COPPS will be taking a small combined PCP -EUPOL COPPS team to view systems and discuss this initiative with the Abu Dhabi Police.
