Security Council to Discuss Palestinian Bid to UN

RAMALLAH, September 26, 2011 (WAFA) – The United Nations Security Council will begin initial discussions on Monday night regarding Palestine’s bid to seek recognition at the UN.

President Mahmoud Abbas had submitted the request just before he gave a historical speech, which gained the majority of the world’s support, on Friday at the UN headquarters.

The Palestinian Authority is currently witnessing an intense diplomatic movement to convince member countries of the UN Security Council to vote in favor of the bid.

It is expected that the Security Council will vote in a few weeks, while the US has announced that it will veto the Palestinian request.
