Birzeit, September 19, 2011 (WAFA) - Birzeit University Ethnographic and Art Museum in partnership with the Institute of Women's Studies at Birzeit University Monday inaugurated the “Framed/Unframed” exhibition.
“Framed/Unframed” exhibition, which was opened today by Museum Consulter, Vera Tamari, along with Birzeit University Director, Khalil Hindi, and a number of employees and students, showcased art works of 19 male and female artists from Palestine and abroad.
Tamari said, “This exhibition is unique because it is the first of its kind. It discusses the representation of the woman in Palestinian modern art.”
“This exhibition has several themes and art techniques, which aim to present contemporary visual art to the local community in general and to the community of Birzeit University in specific,” she said.
Hindi said that this exhibition represents a landmark because it discussed the image of the Palestinian woman in a humane and personal way, away from the traditional and general one.
At the opening, the museum also featured a live performance by Raeda Sa'adeh, a Palestinian Artist, with support from Ford Foundation, Cairo.
Sa’adeh said that she was very happy to participate in a new performance that was presented for the first time in Birzeit University, feeling how responsive the students were.
