Sit-In in Germany Demands Government Recognition of Palestinian State

DORTMUND, September 19, 2011 (WAFA) – The Palestinian communities’ union in the city of Dortmund in Germany has organized a sit-in to support President Mahmoud Abbas in his bid to the United Nations to seek full membership and recognition of a Palestinian state later this month.

Head of the union, Mousa Shamali, said in union press release that “it is time for the international community to recognize the right of the Palestinian people to exist, after their land was taken and they were displaced, oppressed and prevented from exercising their right to self-determination.”

The protesters, who included German activists and members of the Palestinian union, called on the German government to recognize the State of Palestine based on the 1967 borders and vote in favor of Palestine at the UN General Assembly this week.

The protesters distributed leaflets explaining the need to vote for Palestine at the UN in order to obtain a full membership.

They raised Palestinian flags and banners that demanded the support of the Palestinian people’s right to freedom, independence and statehood.
