PCBS: Consumer Price Index Up in August

RAMALLAH, September 14, 2011 (WAFA) - The overall consumer price index (CPI) for the Palestinian territory with its 2004 base year (2004=100) increased in August by 0.17% compared to July prices and increased by 2.84% compared to August 2010, said a Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) report published Wednesday.

It said that the total CPI reached 132.55 in August.

The change in CPI for August is traced back to changes in prices of major expenditure groups compared to July, such as miscellaneous goods and services, which increased by 1.64%, food and soft drinks by 0.32%, medical care by 0.24%, transportation by 0.18%, restaurant, cafes and hotels by 1.05%, recreational, cultural goods & services by 0.48% and textiles, clothing and footwear by 0.47%.

The changes in the CPI at the different geographical levels compared to July prices amounts to 0.16% in the West Bank, 0.29% in Jerusalem and 0.02% in the Gaza Strip.
